CLIPPER ‘STAD AMSTERDAM’ HOISTED THE SAILS FOR A WORLD TOUR
In August 2023, Clipper Stad Amsterdam set sail for a two-year tour around the world. During this World Tour, the Clipper visits many iconic cities including Tokyo, Shanghai, Sydney, Mumbai, Cape Town, New York and London. One of the important themes during the World Tour is making a positive contribution to equal job opportunities for young people. For companies the ports along the route offer new opportunities to host corporate events in a unique setting. And adventurous travelers and fans of the Clipper can sail along for parts of the world tour and experience an unforgettable sailing trip.
A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION TO EQUAL JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
The aim of the World Tour is to contribute positively to equal job opportunities for young people in the age of 18-27, by creating a chance to sail on board. The Clipper is making this happen together with her founding partners Randstad and the Municipality of Amsterdam. In addition, companies that become a partner of the World Tour, can sponsor a stage of the tour where young people from different cultural, social and economic backgrounds sail along.
SAILING AROUND THE WORLD FOR TWO YEARS
Evert van Dishoeck, director of Clipper Stad Amsterdam: ‘This two-year round-the-world voyage is a wish that was long cherished. During the voyage, the ship will visit many countries and cities she has never been to before.’ ‘What many people don't know is that since its first sailing days in 2000, Stad Amsterdam has been sailing with a diverse group of young people every year. Such a trip is a unique and unforgettable experience, which makes the participants grow on a personal level.’

THE STORY

Come and discover the story behind this unique platform of opportunities.
A WORLD-CLASS SHIP FROM AMSTERDAM
The Clipper Stad Amsterdam is a modern sailing ship built in traditional fashion. The idea for this updated craft was born during SAIL Amsterdam 1995, spurred on by a desire to put the Netherlands back on the map alongside other seafaring nations. The project was also intended as a symbol of the commercial spirit of the city of Amsterdam. Global talent company Randstad N.V. and the Municipality of Amsterdam were both behind the initiative to construct the ship in a style modelled after the fast ocean clippers of the late nineteenth century. At the same time, operating the vessel would provide young people with work opportunities, training and unique life experiences.
COLLECTIVELY, WE EMPOWER YOUTH TO SET SAIL.
Each year, Clipper Stad Amsterdam sails the world's oceans as a passenger ship. Our captain and crew of 30 take care of every aspect, whether it’s for a luxury cruise or an adventurous sailing trip. Their efforts fulfill one of our objectives to increase equality of opportunity for young people. The clipper is a place where people of all backgrounds can make new connections. On board, however, the differences fade away. Hundreds of young people have sailed and worked hand in hand with our permanent crew. Through collaboration, discovering new cultures and overcoming fears, participants develop skills that boost their self-confidence. This prepares them for a successful start in the job market. We believe in engaging the business community in our social mission. That is why we work with organisations that share our aspirations and who want to help young people develop their talents around the world. For example, companies can fund one or more legs of our youth voyages. Alternatively, they can offer them an internship or job after completing a voyage.
AN EXCEPTIONAL PLACE FOR INTERNATIONAL NETWORKING
For almost 25 years, we have organised business events on the Stad Amsterdam in port cities around the world; from London to Tokyo and from Cape Town to New York. In a rugged 19th century seafaring setting, the crew creates a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for a networking event, meeting, dinner or presentation - or simply a day out on the water!
