AMMC Council members aboard Duyfken.

Under the auspices of the ANMM, representatives of maritime museums from around the country met in the Onslow Room over the weekend of June 8 and 9 to discuss areas of mutual interest. President Mark Hosking of the Tasmanian Maritime Museum welcomed AMMC executive members from the Bass Strait Maritime Centre, the Melbourne Maritime Heritage Network, the WA Maritime Museum, Albany Historic Whaling Station, Jervis Bay Maritime Museum, the Queensland Maritime Museum, Maritime Museum of Townsville and the Northern Territory Museum and Art Gallery. ANMM was represented by Richard Wesley and Peter Drogitis, with Sharon Babbage providing admin support.

Areas of mutual interest included audience development, museum funding, historic vessel management, publications and travelling exhibitions. The group is in the process of launching a new website to act as a global portal for those interested in visiting Australian maritime museums. A highlight of the weekend was also the chance to explore the museum campus including the Heritage Pontoon and the Endeavour.

The executive meeting also had the privilege of a presentation by Felicity Ferguson of the International Congress of Maritime Museums, presenting on the Global Maritime Histories Project.

There were a great many conversations and presentations made, allowing for the sharing of events and progress at each maritime museum and discussions looking forward to the future of these institutions.
